Fabric protection: how to wash a swimsuit properly to maintain elasticity

Without proper care, even a high-quality swimsuit can quickly lose its shape. To preserve elasticity, colour and fit, it is essential to follow a few simple yet effective care rules.

Why swimsuit fabrics need special attention
Anabel Arto swimsuits are made from modern, highly elastic materials, most commonly blends of polyamide and elastane. These fabrics contour the body beautifully, providing support and comfort, but they are sensitive to high temperatures and harsh chemicals. Chlorine and salt gradually weaken the fibres, so without regular care the fabric loses its resilience and no longer returns to its original shape.

Rinsing is an essential step
After every swim, a swimsuit should be rinsed in cool, fresh water. This is especially important for Anabel Arto designs with decorative elements, draping or intricate cuts. Even a few minutes in clean water help neutralise the effects of salt, sand and sunscreen residue, which can continue to damage the fabric as it dries.

Hand washing as the best way to preserve shape
The safest care method is hand washing. Gently soak the swimsuit in cool water with a mild detergent designed for delicate fabrics. Anabel Arto swimsuits do not require vigorous washing - light squeezing motions without rubbing are sufficient. Powders containing bleaching agents and fabric conditioners should be strictly avoided, as they damage the elastane structure.

Machine washing: possible, but with caution
If machine washing is unavoidable, the swimsuit should be placed in a protective laundry bag and washed on a delicate cycle without spinning. Water temperature should be kept to a minimum. However, for Anabel Arto swimsuits with moulded cups or decorative inserts, machine washing should remain a rare exception.

Drying without harming elasticity
After washing, never wring out a swimsuit. Instead, gently blot it with a towel and lay it flat on a clean surface. Anabel Arto recommends drying swimwear in the shade, away from radiators and direct sunlight. Heat and UV exposure significantly reduce fabric elasticity and can cause colours to fade.

Mistakes to avoid
Ironing, tumble drying, storing swimwear while damp and leaving it in a bag for long periods after swimming can damage even the highest-quality materials. It is also best to avoid sitting on hot surfaces while wearing a wet swimsuit, as this can lead to stretching and deformation.

Anabel Arto swimsuits are designed with anatomy and comfort in mind, but proper care is what preserves their original appearance. Regular rinsing, gentle washing and careful drying help maintain elasticity, shape and visual appeal over time. With the right approach, a swimsuit becomes a reliable companion for many beach seasons to come.
